Sony breaks into the automotive market with the Afeela electric sedan

The automotive industry is becoming more and more attractive for high-tech companies. The Japanese Sony has decided to tap into this uncharacteristic niche. The first step towards this was the creation of Honda Mobility together with the well-known car manufacturer Sony. Now the Afeela brand has been launched and a prototype of an electric car of the same name, stuffed with Sony’s proprietary developments, has been presented.

The company has serious hopes for the Afeela. The developers claim that it will become the basis for a future production car. Engineers have equipped the prototype with a system of 45 cameras and sensors connected to a Qualcomm Snapdragon-based computing platform. This provides Level 3 autonomy in terms of on-road scenarios and Level 2+ autonomy in public road driving mode.
